We at FlexiSail have partnered with Ocean Training the worldwide leading Correspondence Course provider. To bring you the best theory training options to continue your learning off the water and become a safe and competent skipper that your family and friends will have confidence in.

Ocean Training supplies the RNLI, the Royal Marines Special Boat Service and the US Coastguard among many others. FlexiSail specialise in integrated training with regular boat access on quality yachts. This has allowed us to put together a unique value added package for your benefit.

The big requirement of theory training is to learn how to navigate your yacht safely, negotiating shallow water, tides, weather and other vessels of all sizes. There are many tools at your disposal to do this and it is important to learn how to get the most of these tools.

How it works

  1. Get started now with RYA Ocean and FlexiSail Theory Correspondence course, we send everything that you need directly to your home.
  2. You receive;

  1. At your convenience put the disc into your computer and start working through the exercises building your sailing knowledge
  1. Regular tests will be marked by a personal tutor, who you are in regular contact with. Ask them questions via both email and telephone
  1. Attend a regular 1 day face to face theory day resolve your questions and progress your learning
  1. Take your exams (under exam conditions verified by a friend), send them to your tutor to be marked
  1. Receive your certificate

Course details

You will have your own personal tutor to whom you will send in 4 assessments, during the course, followed by two final examinations. The tutor is available by email or telephone for consultation if required.

A student is expected to undertake a minimum of 40 hours of study before taking and passing 2 exams (3 for YM Theory)

You can complete the course at your own pace. You can take as long as 12 months if you wish! Additionally, you will have the added support of FlexiSail Training, a fully recognized RYA Training Centre for both Theory and Practical Training.

ACCESS to Face to face theory day with FlexiSail Training - Attend one FREE face to face theory day with a Yachtmaster Instructor, attend more theory days with a 20% discount (full price £80) for the duration of your course. These days will be themed with 2 core topics and the afternoons will be spent answering your general theory questions. We run these courses regularly over the year and will answer all your questions and check that you are on the right track.

ACCESS to FlexiSail Training Chief Instructor, Alasdair Marshall, for advice and additional support at any time. Alasdair is a qualified RYA Yachtmaster Instructor, teaching both theory and practical courses.
