Social Overview

Our social programme is designed to add another dimension to your membership. FlexiSail is full of fun, interesting, likeminded people and having the opportunity to meet your fellow members on your boat is high on a member’s priority list. You can choose to ‘drop in’ or ‘out’ as you please.

We believe that FlexiSail should be fun and family inclusive so we organise a number of events during the year. As a result of these many of our members are now sailing together and in some cases they have moved boats so they can accumulate time together. It can also be a great way to gently introduce your spouse, partner or children to sailing in a warm, friendly and fun way.

It adds another dimension to your sailing when you know other FlexiSail members who are out on their boats at the same time as you. Arranging to meet up in a cove or sailing in company is just great fun and engaging.

Here are some of the social activities that we organise for which, of course, there is no obligation whatsoever to attend!

  • Annual June Social Weekend when both the Hamble and Lymington boats take part, incorporating a fun competition on the water, a quiz, ‘bubbles’ on the boats after rafting and ending by a dinner and prize giving at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club
  • Cross Channel Rally organised as an assisted passage with Yachtmasters and/or instructors leading the groups of 30 to 35 members. This has proved to be a great way to gain experience as a skipper; build sea miles; night passage crossing one way; and have a jolly good time as well! With everything arranged, including lunch ashore on the Saturday for everyone, all you have to do is book, turn up and enjoy!
  • Cowes Week, first week of August — take the opportunity to join a top Sigma 38 race crew for the experience of highly competitive and close quarters racing on these fast one design yachts. It doesn’t get more competitive than this!
  • SB3 sailing with an instructor on these dinghies with a keel. Small, fast and furious, and just great fun!
  • Winter skiing — this will be new for 2011. As a lifestyle activity many people who sail also ski, and we know there are a lot of our members who fall into this category. Also, as Sue worked in the skiing business for over 10 years, she has had a lot of experience in organising ski holidays for groups. Our FlexiSail ski trip will be next March in Europe. All levels will be looked after and as we are keen skiers ourselves we will be there to ensure you have a fantastic time. Don’t miss it if skiing is your thing!
  • In August 2011 we will be organising a FlexiSail flotilla to Croatia.
